Drug intelligence / Profile preview
C-KAD is a topical ophthalmic drug candidate developed by Livionex for the treatment of early to moderate-stage age-related cataracts. The drug is a proprietary formulation of the metal chelator ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), specifically designed to penetrate the lens of the eye. Its mechanism of action involves targeting and disrupting calcium-lipid-protein aggregates, which are a primary cause of lens clouding and cataract formation. By chelating the calcium ions that stabilize these aggregates, C-KAD aims to dissolve lens opacities and restore transparency, potentially offering a non-surgical therapeutic option for cataract patients. The program has completed Phase 2 clinical trials and is progressing toward Phase 3 development in consultation with the FDA.
