Drug intelligence / Profile preview
C-MB-P lock solution is a multicomponent catheter lock formulation designed to prevent catheter-related bloodstream infections and maintain catheter patency in patients with indwelling central venous catheters, particularly those undergoing hemodialysis. The solution contains 7% sodium citrate (0.24 M), 0.15% methylene blue, 0.15% methylparaben, and 0.015% propylparaben as active ingredients[1][2][5]. It acts as both an antimicrobial and antithrombotic agent by killing planktonic and sessile microorganisms (including bacteria in biofilms) within one hour of exposure while also preventing clot formation[1][2]. Clinical studies have shown that the C-MB-P lock solution significantly reduces the risk of catheter-related bloodstream infection compared to heparin-based locks and provides comparable protection against loss of patency due to thrombosis[2][3]. The mechanism involves chelation by citrate for anticoagulation, direct antimicrobial activity from methylene blue and parabens, and broad-spectrum efficacy without promoting microbial resistance over repeated exposures[1][8].
