Drug intelligence / Profile preview
C-terminal fibroblast growth factor 23 fragment (cFGF23) is a naturally occurring peptide fragment generated by the proteolytic cleavage of intact fibroblast growth factor 23 (iFGF23) at its RXXR motif. It acts as a competitive antagonist of iFGF23 by binding to the binary FGF receptor (FGFR)-Klotho complex, thereby blocking downstream FGF23 signaling. In preclinical models, cFGF23 has been investigated as a therapeutic agent to treat bone mineralization defects, restore hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) bone marrow niche function in beta-thalassemia, and mitigate kidney inflammation and cardiomyopathy associated with pathological FGF23 excess.
