C1 esterase inhibitor human (OCTA-C1-INH) is a plasma-derived, virus-inactivated, nanofiltrated concentrate of human C1 esterase inhibitor (C1-INH) developed by Octapharma. It is a biologic (plasma-derived protein/serpin) whose active ingredient is human C1 esterase inhibitor (complement C1 inhibitor protein). The drug acts as a serine protease inhibitor (serpin) that regulates the complement and contact activation pathways by inhibiting C1r, C1s, plasma kallikrein, and coagulation factor XIIa. It is indicated for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of hereditary angioedema (HAE), particularly HAE due to congenital C1-INH deficiency (HAE types I and II). OCTA-C1-INH is administered intravenously and is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials for the treatment and pre-procedure prevention of acute HAE attacks.
