C11-HCA2969 is a Carbon-11 labeled positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent that specifically targets Very Late Antigen-4 (VLA-4), also known as integrin α4β1. VLA-4 is a cell-surface heterodimer primarily expressed on leukocytes and is involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, playing a critical role in the recruitment of immune cells to sites of inflammation. Developed by the National Institutes for Quantum and Radiological Science and Technology (QST) in Japan, C11-HCA2969 is designed to non-invasively visualize and quantify VLA-4 expression in vivo. Clinical evaluation has focused on safety, radiation dosimetry, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers to establish its utility as a diagnostic tool for monitoring inflammatory activity in conditions such as multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune or inflammatory diseases.
