Drug intelligence / Profile preview
C8-C12 MCT oil is a dietary supplement comprising a specific blend of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs)—notably caprylic acid (C8), capric acid (C10), and lauric acid (C12)—usually derived from coconut oil or palm kernel oil. These MCTs are metabolized differently than long-chain triglycerides, being rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and transported directly to the liver, where they are promptly converted into ketone bodies. This provides a fast-acting energy source, supports ketogenesis, and can be utilized for metabolic and cognitive benefits. Clinical applications of C8-C12 MCT oil include management of malabsorptive gastrointestinal disorders, support for ketogenic diets, potential adjunctive therapy in neurological diseases (such as Alzheimer’s disease and epilepsy), and antimicrobial or antifungal effects. C8 and C10 are associated with rapid energy production and enhanced ketone generation, while C12 is most potent for antibacterial and antiviral effects. MCT oils are used as supplements, functional foods, and ingredients in various clinical and consumer health products[1][2][3][5][6].
