C940 is a small peptide therapeutic (10-20 amino acids) derived from surfactant protein-A (SP-A) for the treatment of asthma. Developed by RaeSedo, it is an SP-A-derived peptidomimetic that targets the SP-A pathway and is designed to mimic the biological activity of the naturally occurring lung protein SP-A. Specifically, C940 contains a glutamine at position 223 (223Q) within the carbohydrate recognition domain of SP-A2. It is administered via inhalation to reduce airway inflammation, mucus production, and airway constriction. Preclinical data indicates efficacy in reducing eosinophilic and neutrophilic inflammation, as well as airway hyperresponsiveness, in both animal models and human airway cells.
