CA-011 is an investigational, proprietary water-soluble prodrug of capsaicin developed for the management of chronic pain, specifically targeting osteoarthritis. As a prodrug, it is designed to convert into capsaicin, a potent agonist of the Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) receptor. The mechanism of action involves the selective and reversible desensitization of pain-conducting nerve fibers, particularly C-fiber nociceptors.
