CA38132 is an investigational, oral small molecule dual inhibitor of the αvβ1 and αvβ8 integrins, currently under development by Pliant Therapeutics for the treatment of fibrotic diseases. These specific integrins are involved in the localized activation of latent transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), a master regulator of the fibrotic process. By selectively inhibiting αvβ1 and αvβ8, CA38132 aims to attenuate TGF-β signaling and reduce the progression of fibrosis in organs such as the lungs and liver, while minimizing the systemic side effects often associated with non-selective TGF-β inhibition. The drug is currently being evaluated in a first-in-human Phase 1 clinical trial in healthy volunteers in the United Kingdom to characterize its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetic profile.
