Overview

The CA9 synthetic peptide vaccine is a therapeutic cancer vaccine composed of three synthetic peptides (CA9p219-227, p288-296, and p323-331) derived from Carbonic Anhydrase IX (CA9). CA9 is a transmembrane protein and tumor-associated antigen that is highly and specifically expressed in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The vaccine is designed for HLA-A24-positive patients and is administered subcutaneously with incomplete Freund's adjuvant. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of CA9-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and antibody responses to target and eliminate CA9-positive tumor cells. In a Phase I clinical trial, the vaccine was found to be well-tolerated and immunogenic in patients with cytokine-refractory metastatic RCC.
