cabazitaxel + prednisone

Cabazitaxel + prednisone is a combination regimen used for the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) in patients previously treated with a docetaxel-containing regimen. Cabazitaxel is a second-generation semisynthetic taxane and microtubule inhibitor that binds to beta-tubulin subunits, stabilizing microtubules and preventing their disassembly. This action disrupts mitosis and inhibits tumor cell proliferation. Unlike earlier taxanes such as docetaxel and paclitaxel, cabazitaxel has low affinity for the P-glycoprotein efflux pump, allowing it to overcome certain drug resistance mechanisms and cross the blood-brain barrier[1][6][8]. Prednisone is an oral corticosteroid administered daily during cabazitaxel therapy to help manage side effects and possibly enhance antitumor activity[1][3]. The combination was developed by Sanofi and first approved by the FDA in 2010 for this indication[5][8].
