Overview

Cabozantinib is a small-molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor used as an anti-cancer medication. It works by inhibiting multiple receptor tyrosine kinases involved in tumor growth and angiogenesis, including VEGFR-1, -2, and -3; MET (hepatocyte growth factor receptor); AXL; RET; KIT; TRKB; FLT-3; and TIE-2. By blocking these pathways, cabozantinib suppresses metastasis, angiogenesis, and oncogenesis. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients previously treated with sorafenib, medullary thyroid cancer (MTC), differentiated thyroid cancer refractory to radioactive iodine therapy or after prior VEGFR-targeted therapy, as well as for certain neuroendocrine tumors. The drug was developed by Exelixis.
