Cacicol 20 is a topical ophthalmic regenerative agent classified as the first ReGeneraTing Agent (RGTA) for ophthalmic use. Its active component is poly(carboxymethylglucose sulfate), a biopolymer that mimics the structure and function of heparan sulfate glycosaminoglycans (HS GAGs), which are natural constituents of the extracellular matrix. By mimicking HS, Cacicol 20 helps restore and protect the extracellular matrix, promoting cellular communication, cellular homeostasis, and tissue repair. It is indicated for the treatment of corneal dystrophies, chronic corneal ulcers, neurotrophic corneal ulcers, and to accelerate corneal wound healing and nerve regeneration following surgical procedures like phototherapeutic keratectomy or corneal cross-linking[1][3][5][7].
