Overview

cAd3-EBO (VRC-EBOADC069-00-VP) is a bivalent viral vector vaccine developed by the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in collaboration with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). The vaccine utilizes a replication-deficient chimpanzee adenovirus type 3 (cAd3) vector to deliver genetic material encoding the glycoproteins of both the Zaire and Sudan strains of the Ebola virus. By expressing these antigens, the vaccine is designed to stimulate both humoral (antibody) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses to prevent Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). It was evaluated in Phase 1 and Phase 1b clinical trials (such as VRC 207) to assess safety and immunogenicity, particularly during the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak response.
