Overview

Caduceus S is a combination pharmaceutical product containing ademetionine (S-adenosyl-L-methionine) and silymarin, primarily indicated for the management of chronic liver diseases and intrahepatic cholestasis. Ademetionine serves as a universal methyl donor in transmethylation reactions and a precursor to glutathione via the transsulfuration pathway, thereby enhancing hepatic detoxification and maintaining cell membrane integrity. Silymarin, a flavonolignan complex extracted from milk thistle (Silybum marianum), provides potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects by scavenging free radicals, inhibiting lipid peroxidation, and stimulating ribosomal RNA polymerase I to promote hepatocyte regeneration. Together, these components work synergistically to protect the liver from oxidative stress, improve bile flow, and support overall hepatic function in conditions such as alcoholic liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and cirrhosis.
