Overview

Caffeine + dimethylglycine is a patented topical active ingredient complex (Patent EP4221675A1) developed by Dr. Kurt Wolff for the treatment and prevention of hereditary hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). The formulation, marketed under brand names such as Alpecin Caffeine DMG and Plantur DMG Clinical, utilizes a dual-action mechanism to combat hair thinning. Caffeine serves to stimulate hair roots and promote growth, while dimethylglycine sodium salt (DMG-Na) enhances scalp microcirculation by activating endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and inducing the production of nitric oxide. This improved blood flow increases the supply of essential nutrients to the hair follicles. Clinical studies published in 2025 have demonstrated that the complex significantly reduces hair loss and improves hair density without notable side effects.
