A combination of caffeine and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a major catechin found in green tea, investigated for its potential in weight management and thermogenesis. The mixture works synergistically to increase energy expenditure and fat oxidation. Caffeine acts as a phosphodiesterase inhibitor and an adenosine receptor antagonist, which stimulates the sympathetic nervous system and increases norepinephrine release. EGCG inhibits catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), the enzyme responsible for degrading norepinephrine. By combining these mechanisms, the mixture prolongs the thermogenic effects of norepinephrine, aiding in body weight loss and the maintenance of weight loss, particularly in individuals with low habitual caffeine intake.
