Cagrilintide is a long-acting synthetic analog of amylin, a hormone co-secreted with insulin by pancreatic beta cells. It acts as an amylin receptor agonist and is designed to mimic the physiological effects of endogenous amylin, including reducing appetite, slowing gastric emptying, and modulating postprandial glucose spikes. Cagrilintide is being developed primarily for the treatment of obesity and overweight (with or without comorbidities), as well as for type 2 diabetes—both alone and in combination with semaglutide (as CagriSema). Clinical trials have demonstrated significant weight loss benefits compared to placebo and other anti-obesity agents[1][4][10]. The drug is administered once weekly via subcutaneous injection[9].
