Overview

This CAIX-targeted CAR-T cell immunotherapy is an autologous cell therapy being developed by the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University for the treatment of advanced or metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC). The therapy utilizes patient-derived T cells that are genetically modified to express a chimeric antigen receptor specific for Carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX), a hypoxia-inducible protein highly expressed in the majority of clear cell RCC cases but with limited expression in normal tissues. The CAR construct incorporates a 4-1BB costimulatory domain to enhance T-cell persistence and anti-tumor activity. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT04969354) to assess safety and preliminary efficacy in patients who have progressed on standard targeted therapies and checkpoint inhibitors.
