calamine + zinc oxide

Calamine + zinc oxide is an approved topical combination drug developed by Laboratoires Bailleul (a subsidiary of Laboratoires de Monaco) for the treatment of skin irritations. Formulated as a gel containing 8% calamine and 8% zinc oxide, it acts through physical and chemical mechanisms on the skin surface without a specific molecular biological target. Zinc oxide serves as an anti-inflammatory and skin-protective agent, forming a barrier that reduces irritation and promotes skin regeneration, while calamine provides soothing and antipruritic (anti-itch) effects. It is approved as an over-the-counter adjunct treatment for irritant dermatitis, and is also used to relieve symptoms associated with chickenpox, insect bites, superficial burns, and other skin irritations.
