Calcipotriene + tazarotene is a topical combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. Calcipotriene is a synthetic vitamin D3 analog that regulates skin cell production and differentiation, while tazarotene is a third-generation topical retinoid (vitamin A derivative) that modulates gene expression to reduce keratinocyte proliferation and inflammation. The combination leverages complementary mechanisms—calcipotriene’s effects on cellular differentiation and proliferation, and tazarotene’s retinoid-mediated normalization of epidermal growth—to improve psoriatic lesions.
