Calcirol

Calcirol is a brand of cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3), a fat-soluble secosteroid essential for the regulation of calcium and phosphate homeostasis and the maintenance of bone health. It is primarily marketed in India by Cadila Pharmaceuticals and is available in various formulations, including granules in sachets, tablets, and oral solutions. As a pro-hormone, cholecalciferol is converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] and subsequently in the kidneys to its active form, 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (calcitriol). This active metabolite binds to the nuclear Vitamin D receptor (VDR), promoting intestinal calcium absorption and bone mineralization.
