Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcitriol vehicle is the inactive control formulation used in clinical trials for CD2027, a topical oily spray containing the vitamin D3 analog calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3). Developed by Galderma R&D, this vehicle is designed to be physically identical to the active drug product, containing the same oily excipients but without the active pharmaceutical ingredient. It was specifically utilized as the comparator arm in a Phase 2 multicenter, randomized, double-blind study (NCT01155011) to evaluate the efficacy and safety of CD2027 applied twice daily for 8 weeks in patients with plaque-type psoriasis. The use of the vehicle allows researchers to establish the therapeutic benefit of the calcitriol component while controlling for the potential emollient effects of the oily base.
