Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcium carbonate is an inorganic salt and a naturally occurring mineral compound with the formula CaCO₃. It is widely used as a dietary supplement to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels, supporting healthy bones, muscles, nerves, and heart function. Medically, it serves as an antacid to relieve symptoms of heartburn, acid indigestion, and upset stomach by neutralizing gastric hydrochloric acid. In patients with chronic kidney disease, it acts as a phosphate binder to help control hyperphosphatemia. Calcium carbonate is available over-the-counter in various oral forms including tablets (regular and chewable), capsules, powders, and suspensions[1][2][3][4][5].
