Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcium chloride + magnesium chloride + sodium lactate + sodium chloride + dextrose monohydrate is a sterile, non-pyrogenic **peritoneal dialysis solution** marketed as **DELFLEX** for the treatment of chronic kidney failure, including end-stage renal disease, in patients receiving peritoneal dialysis. It is a multi-component aqueous electrolyte and osmotic formulation containing dextrose monohydrate as the osmotic agent, sodium lactate as a buffer precursor, and sodium chloride, calcium chloride, and magnesium chloride to provide physiologically relevant electrolyte composition. Its therapeutic effect is not mediated by a discrete molecular receptor; rather, the solution is instilled intraperitoneally, where the **peritoneal membrane** functions as the dialysis interface, permitting diffusion of uremic solutes and osmotic ultrafiltration of excess fluid. DELFLEX is supplied for intraperitoneal administration only in flexible single-dose bags and has been marketed by Fresenius Medical Care. Public labeling describes multiple dextrose strengths and standard or modified electrolyte compositions, with acidic conventional formulations around pH 5.5 and separate neutral-pH DELFLEX variants also marketed under the same brand.
