Calcium chloride dihydrate + dextrose monohydrate + potassium chloride + sodium chloride + sodium lactate is a fixed-dose intravenous parenteral fluid, electrolyte, and carbohydrate solution commonly labeled as Lactated Ringer's and Dextrose (5%) Injection. It provides water, sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, lactate, and dextrose for replacement of extracellular fluid and electrolyte losses and for limited caloric support. Lactate is metabolized to bicarbonate equivalents and produces an alkalinizing effect. The product is a hypertonic, single-dose intravenous solution without bacteriostatic or antimicrobial preservatives, originally developed by Hospira and marketed by Pfizer.
