Overview
Calcium D-saccharate is a small molecule calcium salt of D-saccharic acid (also known as D-glucaric acid) developed and manufactured by West Bengal Chemical Industries Limited (WBCIL). It is intended for oral administration and is primarily utilized as a bioavailable source of calcium and a nutraceutical ingredient. In the WBCIL pipeline, it is being developed for indications including hypertension, osteoporosis, and colon cancer. While its primary function is mineral supplementation, saccharate compounds are often investigated for their potential to inhibit beta-glucuronidase, an enzyme involved in the deconjugation of toxins and hormones, thereby potentially aiding in detoxification and cancer chemoprevention. The compound is currently in the 'Under Scale Up' phase of development at WBCIL.
