calcium dobesilate

Calcium dobesilate is a synthetic small molecule vasoprotective agent and the calcium salt of dobesilic acid. It is primarily used to treat chronic venous insufficiency, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and microangiopathies such as diabetic retinopathy. Its mechanism of action involves stabilizing capillary walls by reducing their permeability and increasing resistance. This is achieved through stabilization of collagen chains in the basement membrane and modulation of biochemical mediators that regulate endothelial permeability. The drug also improves erythrocyte flexibility, inhibits platelet hyperaggregation, reduces blood viscosity (especially in diabetic retinopathy), and enhances tissue perfusion[1][5][6][7]. These effects help correct capillary dysfunctions due to metabolic or functional disorders.
