Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Medivorin-50 is a liquid injectable formulation of calcium folinate (leucovorin calcium) developed and marketed by Medion Biotech. Calcium folinate is an active, reduced form of folate (vitamin B9) that does not require enzymatic reduction by dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) to participate in one-carbon transfer reactions essential for DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis. It is primarily used in oncology as a rescue agent to prevent or mitigate the toxic side effects of high-dose methotrexate therapy, and in combination with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) to enhance its cytotoxic efficacy in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer. Additionally, it is indicated for the treatment of folate deficiency megaloblastic anemia when oral folate therapy is not feasible.
