Calcium formate is a calcium salt of formic acid with the chemical formula Ca(HCOO)₂ or C₂H₂CaO₄ and CAS number 544-17-2. It appears as a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and has a slightly acidic odor. It is commonly used as a preservative and antibacterial agent in livestock feed, as a calcium supplement for osteoporosis prevention, in the construction industry for concrete products, and in leather tanning processes. It shows high oral bioavailability as a calcium supplement without accumulation of formate in the body.
