Calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) is a biocompatible material primarily used as an injectable dermal filler for aesthetic purposes. Marketed under the brand name Radiesse, it consists of synthetic CaHA microspheres suspended in a gel carrier (typically sodium carboxymethylcellulose). It has a dual mechanism of action: it provides immediate volume correction upon injection and also acts as a collagen biostimulator. [6, 7] The CaHA particles form a scaffold that stimulates the body's fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, leading to long-term skin rejuvenation and structural support. [2, 8] It is used to correct moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds, restore volume in the cheeks and hands, and improve jawline contour. [12, 16] The compound is biodegradable and radiopaque, making it visible on X-rays and CT scans. [14] Calcium hydroxyapatite is also the primary mineral component of bone and teeth and is used in dental care products and has been investigated as a prosthetic aid for bone-related conditions.
