Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcium malate is a highly bioavailable organic calcium salt composed of calcium bound to malic acid. It is widely utilized as a dietary supplement and food additive (E352) to support bone density, skeletal health, muscle contraction, and nerve transmission. Compared to traditional calcium supplements like calcium carbonate, calcium malate exhibits superior water solubility and intestinal absorption, even in higher pH environments, making it gentler on the gastrointestinal tract and less likely to cause bloating, gas, or constipation. It is commonly formulated in supplements to prevent or treat calcium deficiency, osteopenia, and osteoporosis, particularly in postmenopausal women, individuals on dairy-free diets, and bariatric surgery patients.
