Calcium monoethylfumarate is a salt form of monoethyl fumaric acid, which is structurally related to other fumaric acid esters such as dimethyl fumarate and monomethyl fumarate. Fumaric acid esters are known for their immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, primarily through activation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway, which helps protect cells from oxidative stress. While dimethyl fumarate and monomethyl fumarate are approved for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis due to these mechanisms[1][4][9], calcium monoethylfumarate itself is not widely recognized as an approved pharmaceutical agent in major regulatory jurisdictions. It has been used historically in some European countries as part of combination therapies for psoriasis.
