Overview

Calcium phosphosilicate (CPS) putty is a synthetic, resorbable, alloplastic bone graft substitute primarily used in dental and orthopedic surgery. Composed of bioactive glass-ceramic particles (calcium phosphosilicate) in a synthetic carrier, it acts as an osteoconductive scaffold that promotes the regeneration of new bone. Upon implantation, the material undergoes a series of surface reactions leading to the formation of a hydroxycarbonate apatite (HCA) layer, which facilitates the attachment and proliferation of osteoblasts. It is commonly employed in socket preservation, ridge augmentation, and sinus lifts to prevent alveolar bone resorption following tooth extraction. In clinical trial contexts, it is often used as a positive control for evaluating new regenerative materials.
