Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calcium pidolate is a small molecule calcium supplement developed and manufactured by West Bengal Chemical Industries Limited (WBCIL). It consists of calcium ions combined with pidolic acid (also known as pyroglutamic acid or pyrrolidone carboxylic acid). Administered orally, it is indicated for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and osteopenia. The pidolate moiety acts as a chelating agent that enhances the bioavailability and absorption of calcium in the gastrointestinal tract compared to traditional calcium salts. Mechanistically, it provides essential mineral support for bone health, has been shown to lower parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, and may increase growth hormone (GH) levels, contributing to gains in total body bone mineral content.
