Overview
OSTEOSET is a synthetic, resorbable bone graft substitute composed of medical-grade calcium sulfate. It is designed to fill bone voids or defects in the skeletal system that are not intrinsic to the stability of the bone structure. Upon implantation, the calcium sulfate pellets or paste provide an osteoconductive scaffold for bone ingrowth and are gradually resorbed by the body at a rate nearly equivalent to the rate of new bone formation. It is commonly used in orthopedic surgery for treating fractures with bone defects, tumor resections, and osteomyelitis. While primarily a physical scaffold, it is often used as a carrier for other therapeutic agents, such as antibiotics in the OSTEOSET T formulation.
