Overview
Caldus is a fixed-dose combination medication containing calcium carbonate and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). It is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiencies, particularly in elderly populations or as an adjunct to specific osteoporosis therapies. Calcium carbonate serves as a source of elemental calcium, which is essential for the structural integrity of bone tissue and various physiological processes including nerve conduction and muscle contraction. Cholecalciferol, a fat-soluble vitamin, is converted into its active form, calcitriol, which facilitates the intestinal absorption of calcium and regulates bone mineralization by maintaining adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations. The combination is designed to optimize bone health and reduce the risk of fractures associated with bone density loss.
