Overview

Calendula Weleda cream is a topical botanical preparation containing a 10% extract of the marigold plant (*Calendula officinalis*), along with wool fat (lanolin) and sesame oil. It was evaluated by Karolinska University Hospital in a Phase 3 clinical trial for the prevention and treatment of acute radiation skin reactions (ARSR) in breast cancer patients undergoing adjuvant radiotherapy. The cream is intended to leverage the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of *Calendula officinalis* to mitigate skin toxicity. However, clinical trial results indicated that it was not significantly superior to standard aqueous cream (Essex cream) in reducing the incidence of severe skin reactions.
