Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Calonysterone is a natural ecdysteroid, a class of polyhydroxylated steroidal compounds found in plants and arthropods. It is currently being investigated for its potential therapeutic effects in metabolic diseases, specifically obesity and its associated complications. In preclinical rat models, calonysterone has demonstrated the ability to prevent diet-induced obesity, reduce systemic inflammation by lowering interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels, and normalize the plasma concentrations of adipokines such as adiponectin and leptin. Additionally, it appears to exert epigenetic effects by increasing global DNA methylation. As a "green anabolic" compound, it is studied for its metabolic and anti-inflammatory properties without the typical side effects of synthetic steroids.
