Overview

Calpurbatug (TRL1068) is a fully human monoclonal antibody developed as a broad-spectrum biofilm disruptor. It targets and disintegrates bacterial biofilms by binding to members of the DNABII family of bacterial DNA-binding proteins. This mechanism enables it to disrupt the protective matrix that bacteria form on surfaces such as prosthetic joints, making infections more susceptible to standard antibiotic treatments. Calpurbatug is being developed primarily for difficult-to-treat infections associated with prosthetic joint infection (PJI), chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, and both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial infections—including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The drug is administered intravenously or via inhalation and has received designations such as Fast Track, Orphan Drug, and Qualified Infectious Disease Product in the US. Trellis Bioscience is developing calpurbatug using its CellSpot technology.
