Overview

Calusterone is a synthetic orally active anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) classified as a 17-alkylated androgenic steroid. It is structurally similar to testosterone and bolasterone (its 7α-isomer). Calusterone acts primarily by activating the androgen receptor and can also be converted to estradiol, thereby activating certain estrogen receptors. Its main clinical use has been as an antineoplastic agent in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The drug may alter estradiol metabolism and reduce estrogen production, contributing to its antitumor effects[1][2][3][4][5][6].
