CAM-FR is a targeted radiopharmaceutical being developed by Precirix for the treatment of folate receptor alpha (FRα)-expressing tumors, specifically ovarian cancer. It consists of a camelid-derived single-domain antibody (sdAb) that binds with high affinity and specificity to FRα, a protein overexpressed in approximately 75-90% of epithelial ovarian cancers. The sdAb format, also known as a nanobody, offers significant advantages over traditional monoclonal antibodies, including a smaller molecular size that enables rapid tumor penetration and fast blood clearance. These properties help minimize off-target radiation exposure and reduce kidney retention, which is a common challenge for folate-targeted therapies. By delivering a therapeutic radionuclide directly to the tumor site, CAM-FR aims to provide a potent and precise treatment for advanced ovarian cancer. The program is currently in the IND-enabling stage of development.
