Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CaMC-LP is a liposomal encapsulated formulation of the chloroform fraction (CaMC) derived from the bark of *Cassia fistula* L., commonly known as the Golden shower tree. This phytopharmaceutical candidate contains bioactive constituents, including piperine, which exhibit potent anticancer activity. The mechanism of action involves the induction of apoptosis through the upregulation of pro-apoptotic markers such as p53, caspase 3, and caspase 9, and the downregulation of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. Additionally, it induces cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase. Liposomal encapsulation enhances the delivery and efficacy of the chloroform fraction, demonstrating significant tumor growth inhibition in Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC) models compared to the non-encapsulated fraction, with a profile comparable to 5-Fluorouracil but without inducing significant toxicity.
