Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Camelina oil is a botanical extract derived from the seeds of *Camelina sativa*, a member of the Brassicaceae family. It is distinguished by its high concentration of omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), and is also rich in tocopherols (vitamin E), which provide significant antioxidant stability. In clinical research, camelina oil has been investigated for its potential therapeutic benefits in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Studies indicate that supplementation can improve glucose homeostasis, reduce systemic inflammation (as evidenced by decreased hs-CRP levels), and mitigate oxidative stress and metabolic endotoxemia. Its metabolic effects are primarily attributed to the modulation of lipid signaling pathways and the reduction of pro-inflammatory markers.
