Camellia japonica extract is a natural botanical derived from the Japanese camellia plant, widely recognized for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In the context of dermatological research, it has demonstrated significant potential in treating atopic dermatitis (AD) by suppressing the infiltration of mast cells and reducing the expression of key pro-inflammatory and Th2-type cytokines, including TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-4, and IL-5. Additionally, the extract lowers systemic allergic markers such as IgE, histamine, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP). Its antioxidant mechanism involves the reduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) levels alongside the upregulation of catalase activity. These combined effects contribute to the restoration of the skin barrier and the alleviation of chronic skin inflammation.
