The primary mechanism of action is its emollient effect—camellia oil deeply hydrates skin and hair by mimicking the skin’s natural sebum composition. Its bioactive compounds exhibit anti-inflammatory activity by disrupting NF-κB signaling pathways to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines; antioxidant effects are mediated through squalene and tocopherol scavenging free radicals; it also inhibits metalloproteinases involved in collagen degradation via flavonoids like kaempferol[2][4]. Topically applied camellia oil supports skin barrier function (reducing transepidermal water loss), soothes irritation/redness (including acne-prone or sensitive skin), improves elasticity/firmness by stimulating collagen production, reduces hyperpigmentation by inhibiting melanin synthesis[4][6], strengthens nails/cuticles[3], conditions hair/lashes/scalp for improved growth and shine[1][7].
