CampbellCell is an allogeneic primed mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy developed by Campbell Neurosciences, a spin-off of Therapeutic Solutions International (TSOI). Positioned as a first-in-class regenerative medicine for psychiatric diseases, it is specifically being developed for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, with a focus on suicide prevention. The therapy utilizes mesenchymal lineage stem cells that have been optimized to produce neurotrophic factors and modulate the immune system. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of tolerogenic dendritic cells, upregulation of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-4 (IL-4), suppression of the pro-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-17 (IL-17), and stimulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) production. As of 2024, the program remains in preclinical development, with production standardized by Allogen Biologics.
