Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Campho-Phenique is an over-the-counter topical medication used as an antiseptic and analgesic. It is a combination product containing camphor (10.8%) and phenol (4.7%). Developed and marketed by Foundation Consumer Healthcare, it is indicated for the temporary relief of pain and itching associated with minor burns, cuts, scrapes, insect bites, and cold sores, while also helping to prevent infection. Camphor acts as a topical analgesic by providing a cooling sensation and stimulating nerve endings to relieve pain, while phenol serves as an antiseptic to reduce the risk of bacterial infection in minor wounds. The product is available in multiple formulations, including liquid and gel preparations, for external use only.
