Camptomax (Camposomes™) is a nanosomal formulation of camptothecin, a potent topoisomerase I inhibitor, being developed by Aphios Corporation for the treatment of pancreatic and colorectal cancers. Camptothecin is an antitumor alkaloid originally isolated from the bark and stem wood of *Camptotheca acuminata*. The drug's biological target is DNA topoisomerase I, an enzyme that camptothecin traps in a cleavable complex with DNA, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis. The nanosomal delivery system is specifically designed to overcome camptothecin's inherent poor water solubility and aqueous instability. In vitro studies have demonstrated that Camptomax exhibits differential cytotoxicity against tumorigenic versus non-tumorigenic cell lines, including activity against camptothecin-resistant pancreatic cancer lines such as Panc-1.
