This combination regimen is an induction chemo-immunotherapy treatment being investigated for patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). It consists of the anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody camrelizumab administered alongside a modified TPF chemotherapy regimen. The chemotherapy component includes nab-paclitaxel (a microtubule stabilizer), cisplatin (a platinum-based DNA alkylating agent), and S-1 (an oral fluoropyrimidine combination consisting of tegafur, gimeracil, and oteracil). The regimen is typically administered in 2 or 3 cycles prior to concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Camrelizumab works by blocking the PD-1 receptor on T-cells, enhancing the immune system's ability to detect and attack tumor cells, while the chemotherapy agents provide direct cytotoxic effects and potentially sensitize the tumor to subsequent radiation. This specific protocol is being developed and evaluated by researchers at The First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University.
